Hillmann has a term contract with a confidential client to provide industrial hygiene support services. Hillmann was recently contracted to conduct an inspection for asbestos at one of their facilities in Massachusetts.

The store had plans to conduct a major interior renovation. A fireproofing material containing 40-50% amosite asbestos was discovered on structural beams throughout the store as well as thermal insulation and floor tile and mastic. The store was closed for business during the majority of the renovation activities, however, store employees continued to work in the store along with the other trades conducting the renovation. The project was divided into phases to accommodate the renovation schedule.

Hillmann was retained to prepare abatement specifications to use for competitive bidding purposes. Hillmann assisted with the bidding process and contractor selection, and provided abatement monitoring during removal. Prior to abatement activities, a meeting was held with the Client's employees working adjacent to the abatement area to discuss the project and to answer questions and concerns. Asbestos awareness training was also provided to the trades that were working in adjacent areas.

The abatement contractor completed the scope of work in compliance with the project specifications and within the scheduled time period. Visual clearance and air and dust sampling indicated acceptable levels prior to re-occupancy or renovation of the area.
